In our latest article, we discuss the importance of LGBT+ History Month, how you can get involved and what it means to be part of the LGBT+ community at TCS.
LGBT+ History Month 2022
LGBT+ History Month is a month-long campaign that occurs every February, once a year. It takes place in February to coincide with the abolition of Section 28 in 2003, a policy that prohibited the “promotion” of homosexuality in local authorities in the UK.
The campaign first began in 2005 and was created by the Schools Out UK charity. The charity’s focus is to educate people about the LGBT+ community and its history.
The purpose of LGBT+ History Month is to celebrate the LGBT+ community.
This year’s theme is ‘political artists’. It was chosen because of the variety of political movements taking place for important campaigns such as the Climate change movement and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Supporting LGBT+ History Month
There is a range of events taking place throughout LGBT+ History Month for anyone to get involved with. On the LGBT Foundation’s website, you can view all of the events available in your location and choose from a vast variety such as volunteering, recovering and support groups and sexual health clinics.
Throughout the month, you can support the campaign by wearing the LGBT+ History Month badges and lanyards. You can download them from the LGBT+ History Month’s website here.
The charity has created a downloadable LGBT+ History resources page, which consists of fact sheets, social media banners, information and activities for anyone to access on their website.
Being a part of the LGBT+ community at TCS
At TCS, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive business. As part of our parent company, Acacium Group, we have an LGBTQ+ network. The network is dedicated to supporting the growth of Acacium Group and its businesses by raising awareness of the issues faced by the LGBT+ community and breaking down the barriers associated with those challenges. The network focuses on celebrating our LGBT+ employees, allowing them to share their experiences and together create a safe space for all LGBTQ+ employees within Acacium Group.
