International Women's Day 2022

Monday, March 7, 2022

International Women’s Day is a global campaign celebrated annually on the 8th of March. The purpose of the campaign is to commemorate the social, cultural, political and economic contributions of women throughout history.

The first International Women’s Day gathering took place in 1911. Over one million people participated in the event worldwide. With the outbreak of World War One in 1914, social gatherings were grounded to halt, but women continued to march on International Women’s Day.

You can view a detailed timeline of the history of International Women’s Day and the activities that have taken place throughout the years here.

This year’s theme

The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreaktheBias. The theme was chosen to provide women with an opportunity to ‘break the bias’ and call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping when they see it happen.
