International Nurses Day 2022
Thursday, May 12, 2022
Today we are celebrating International Nurse Day. This special day takes place once a year to celebrate and acknowledge nurses and their contributions across the world.
In today’s article, we discuss the importance of International Nurses Day, how you can show your support and what we’re doing to celebrate International Nurses Day.
International Nurses Day 2022 theme
The focus for this year’s International Nurses Day is ‘Nurses: A voice to lead. Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global healthcare.’ The theme aims to highlight the need to protect, support and invest in nursing to develop and grow the healthcare system worldwide.'
How did International Nurses Day begin?
The first International Nurses Day took place in 1974 when the International Council of Nurses proclaimed the 12th of May as International Nurses Day. This was due to a woman named Dorothy Sunderland who contacted the president to proclaim a day for nurses in 1953. Despite the vast interest in having a day dedicated to nurses, the International Nurses Day campaign was declined and didn’t take place until 1974.
What can you do to get involved with International Nurses Day?
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has created a range of downloadable resources and promotional tools for International Nurses Day and the history and contributions nurses have made throughout history. The International Nurses Day logo is available to download on the International Council of Nurses (ICN) website and use on social media.
Today the Royal College of Nursing is highlighting the work of nurses across the UK by sharing their stories that demonstrate the #BestofNursing. You can share your #BestofNursing story on social media using the following hashtags #BestOfNursing and #NursesDay and tagging the Royal College of Nursing in your posts @theRCN (Twitter and Instagram) and @RoyalCollegeofNursing (Facebook).
The Royal College of Nursing also has a range of downloadable graphics on its website to use on social media and raise awareness of International Nurses Day.
How are we supporting International Nurses Day at TCS?
For International Nurses Day, we are giving our nurses the chance to win paid food shop vouchers by completing our values word search. We understand that working as a nurse and finding time to food shop and prep meals for shifts can be difficult. This is why we wanted to give something meaningful to our nurses as a thank you for everything they do for our clients and the community.
Today we are sharing a range of content on our social media channels and website to support International Nurses Day, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn.
