Job description of a learning disability support worker at TCS

When you join TCS as a learning disability support worker, you will become a part of our team and play an integral role in helping us to achieve our vision, outstanding world-class care. In your day-to-day job, you will deliver care and support in a person-centred manner to ensure the client’s needs are at the centre of their care.  

You will be an advocate of your client, enabling them to achieve personal milestones, learn new skills and grow independence. A key part of your role will focus on building a strong professional relationship with the client and their loved ones to ensure their care is tailored to every aspect of their life. 

 

Responsibilities of TCS learning disability support workers

In your learning disability support worker job, you can expect to carry out the following responsibilities on a daily basis: 

  • Administration of medication
  • Monitoring and supporting psychological/emotional wellbeing of our clients
  • Supporting with aspects of the client’s personal care
  • Developing structured routines and activities within the home and community to encourage therapeutic relationship development and engagement in hobbies, activities and tasks and linking in with allocated professionals
  • Using safe holding techniques (where prescribed) as a last resort should this be required to ensure safety
  • Assessing and monitoring behavioural presentation in conjunction with the PBS plan which has been devised
  • Completion of the following documentation and assessment tools:
    - Daily notes
    - Incident forms
    - Body Map
    - Fluid and diet forms
    - Handover sheets
    - MARS charts
    - Medication stock document
    - Scatter plot document for recording of behaviours

 

What experience do learning disability support worker jobs require?

In a TCS learning disability support worker role, we require you to have the following experience:  

  • A minimum of 12 months of UK based paid care experience caring for individuals with learning disabilities, autism and/or mental health conditions.
  • Experience and confidence in carrying out physical interventions in the past two years.
