Why choose a community learning disability nurse job?

If you haven’t worked in a community nurse job before, we’ve outlined what to expect and how your role can truly make a difference in the lives of others.

Deliver bespoke care and support

As a community learning disability nurse, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of bespoke care to adults and children with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions.

Play a key role in the client’s personal care plan

You will deliver person-centred support tailored to the client’s care and personal needs, their values and also their desires. You will be involved in the client’s care plan to ensure it remains relevant and supports them to regain or build confidence and independence, develop skills and learn new hobbies.

Enable communication development

You will encourage the client to communicate in the most suitable ways for them, using communication tools and methods when necessary to help them build their confidence and develop a meaningful relationship with you and your colleagues.

Advocate collaborative working

Collaborative working is a key element of your role at TCS. You will work closely with the client, their family, your colleagues and clinical lead to enable the client to lead a fulfilling and meaningful life in the community under our care supervision.

Encourage variety in the client’s day to day

Our community learning disability nurse jobs are varied and extremely empowering. One day you could be taking the client out to the zoo for a day trip to support them in having a sensory experience and learning new social skills.

Another day you could spend time conducting risk assessments and reviewing behavioural data to identify opportunities to enhance the client’s communication skills and relationships.

No two days are the same, and that is one of the many things our learning disability nurses and RNLD/RMN clinical leads love about working in the Learning Disability and Autism Service at TCS.
